Congress
must act now
It looks like the Congress
is out to take advantage of the situation in Goa against the BJP. In a jittery
move the BJP sent out their minority leaders to address press conferences where
a straight forward leader like Mr Lobo was searching for words to convince how
the religious intolerance has not reached Goa. Saying so does he not show
any remorse to the increased incidents of atrocities committed against
all minorities in the whole of india since the BJP came to power at the Centre.
These major central parties are far from understanding the sentiments of Goa
and Goans. It will be good if the Congress joins the local regional parties and
form an alliance rather then playing the big brother who will only play the
role of dividing the votes and getting the BJP enter through the back door. BJP
too will get in their freebies ready like the legislation of illegal houses
which is indeed a game changer acknowledged by the prospective BJP candidate from
Dabolim. Giving away precious communidade land to the migrants as if the land
belongs to the ministers forefathers and was kept not for the Goa’s
future generations but for these self centred politicians to create outsiders
vote bank. It will surely be a game changer to him and all those who want power
at the cost of our beautiful Goa. Daré these ministers to buy the land from the
communidades at market rate and then give it free to the migrants and get votes
in return. All these issues will be better addressed by local parties then the
central parties. A strong group of local parties is a need of the hour
and let congress support such a party and work along with the dispension to
earn the trust of the Goan populace.

Terror tentacles
It was both shocking and disturbing to read about the assault by
gunmen and bombers that killed over 130 innocent people on 13th November night.
The Islamic state group took responsibility for the terror attacks.
This violence has spread fear across the four corners of the world
and it shows the communities have lost their trust in each other. Since this
issue is so vital, world leaders and the entire global community should condemn
such incident which has brought untold suffering to many innocent people.
Intolerance anywhere is a threat to humanism everywhere, as it would result in
destruction of human lives and property. In late 1980's, then Pope John Paul II
had called for an inter religion collaboration for a joint struggle against
hunger, poverty ignorance, persecution, discrimination and every form of
slavery of human spirit.
He had then appealed to world leaders for bringing about a
‘Civilization of Love’
I hope our present world leaders will unite together and work in
that direction, as humanity is one big family in the world, where people should
live in peace, harmony and happiness.

Uprooting terror
I have been reading with great interest the air strikes that
France have carried out on ISIS in Syria following the terrorist attacks on its
soil that killed around 130. But with the Russians and Americans already
bombing Syria and now with the intensified French assaults, are these air
strikes having any effects on ISIS? Besides, if the French already knew the
whereabouts of ISIS bases in
Syria, why did they wait until now to bomb them? Just bombing for
the sake of revenge is not going to work in eliminating the ISIS. The French
president Mr. Hollande may bring temporary satisfaction to the country by
carrying these air strikes whether they are hitting the targets or not is
another question.
In this time of great distress, France along with the US and
Russia must thing logically together to eliminate the menace of ISIS completely
from the face of this world. To do that they must find a way to starve them off
financially by stopping the flow of money that comes into their coffers.
Destroy the oilrigs captured by them in Iraq and Syria or at least the
infrastructure used to smuggle the oil. Check
from where they get arms and ammunition to fight like this and
tear down on the smugglers and the last but not the least the US must seriously
consider now of putting the boots on the ground.

Greeting by Namaste
American Journal of Infection Control has published a report
warning hand-shake to be even more infectious than kissing. Earlier, also
American health authorities had recommended greeting by folded hands instead of
western style by shaking hands or kissing endorsing Indian style of saying
‘namaste’ with folded hands for normal greetings. It is one of many such
glorious aspects of Hinduism which are purely based on highly advanced
scientific theories set by ancient saints after deliberate analysis.
Many similar aspects were fixed as religious rituals so as to be
compulsorily followed by the commoners by our ancient saints. Even followers of
Hinduism deviated from such scientific religious bindings because of multiple
reasons like misuse of religious beliefs by selfish priests and blind following
of western culture. In larger interest of mankind, aspects of Hinduism should
be analyzed and popularised which can be best done by popularizing Sanskrit
which has a wealth of hidden treasure for welfare of mankind.

Bus stoning
The consecutive days of stoning of interstate buses, that too late
at night, is horrific. The Police need to be pulled up: after the first
incident, failing to nab the culprits, they did not take measures to man the
route/provide escorts to the buses till they solve the same. This is absolute
dereliction of duty.
These types of incidents should not raise their ugly heads in Goa:
not only the people who did the actual stoning but the masterminds behind the
attack need to be caught. Such people need to be flushed out of society and
Goans need to know who these people are.
The Governor took time off to ‘extoll’ the ‘virtues’ of a
controversial departed “VHP” leader but did not think to pull up the Govt. on
this incident which is not the way of life here?
We recall the Governor said she ‘wants’ to do something for Goans:
well Special Status is the only thing we can think of.

Regional outfit a must for
2017
The recent wipe out of the
BJP and its allies in the Bihar Elections must have given shivers to the party
leadership. A local party is always more understanding to the needs of the
people and no one can deny that. The Prime Minister who is the PM for all Indians
jumped into the mudslinging in Bihar and almost got all his taunting
speeches backfired. The intolerance on religious issues since the BJP has taken
the helm of affairs in India has reach a the height of heights. All local
issues are better understood and sorted out by a regional party than a central
Party. This is more evident in the voting pattern in Bihar. Elections are not
far in Goa, a strong dispensation led by the very vocal on Goan issues Mr
Vijay and others will be the only option for Goans to look upon to address,
which the BJP is trying to bulldoze with their hardheadedness favoring
the business class at the cost of the environment. Although late Mathany showed
more trust in his friend the then leader of opposition in attaining special status
for Goa and did not join hands with the regional outfits who were ready to
fight the 2014 election on a common platform I hope Mrs Saldahna would favor a
strong Regional outfit to counter forces that are out to destroy our beautiful
Goa. As the situation is turning worse day by day, I strongly feel Mr Parrikar
will be the projected Chief Ministerial candidate for BJP in 2017.

Counting colours in the rainbow...
It was indeed refreshing to read the name of Dr Manmohan Singh in
the letter titled ‘Suppression of right to protest’ by SND Poojary. In today’s
troubled times Dr Singh stands out as a person who was and is respected
for his impeccable character and integrity which has been thrown by the wayside
by the present incumbent. The below the belt comments were a hallmark of Dr.
Singh’s opposition who called him by a different name each day like ‘nikama’.
In fact, the present PM can be called as ‘nikama’ due to his inability to
reign in the rabid motor mouths which has resulted in the scientist,
historians, writers and film makers returning their awards.
With the results of the Bihar elections being declared I am sure
that Mr. Poojari will be able to see the rainbow now.

Bihari against Bahari
Bihar Assembly results proved too costly for NDA and BJP, it was a
landslide victory for the Grand Alliance where Nitish Kumar's JD(U), Lalu
Prasad's RJD and Congress unitedly fought this election. Second time in the
state assembly elections, BJP lost badly since they came to power
at the Centre. First was Delhi Assembly and now in Bihar. Reasons behind this
defeat are many, irresponsible statements of BJP's Central Ministers, the Dadri
incident in UP, the beef issue, and the most important reason was the statement
made by RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat about cancellation of Reservation. Amit Shah's
comment was pathetic and miserable which he said that if Grand Alliance
wins in Bihar, Pakistan will celebrate its victory by burning crackers. This
contest was between Bihari against Bahari (outsiders) where people of Bihar
have shown the door to BJP that is Bahari. BJP in the end played the politics
of polarisation but nothing has helped them to win this election. It was
mainly because the development happened in Bihar during the time of
Nitish Kumar that gave Grand Alliance a great victory and people of Bihar has
seen what kind of development happening in India since Modi came to
power. One can see now how RSS will damage BJP in the days to come. To defeat
BJP in Goa 2017, what we need is a Grand Alliance, Congress cannot do it alone
all the local parties should come together with Congress, then only BJP can be
defeated otherwise BJP will play the game of divide and rule, splitting the
votes and with fractured mandate, will come to power again. Goans should forget
all the differences among themselves and should come together and elect the
government which will benefit the state and its people.
Satyajit Prabhudessai, Benaulim
India needs action and not hatred
The recent Bihar election victory of Mahagathbandhan JD(U), RJD
and Congress combined was a victory for tolerant India and the people of Bihar
have sent the message very clear to the BJP and other hate mongers to stay away
from divisive and religious based politics. India needs action orientated
politics which considers health, wealth, jobs, good infrastructure, social
security, environment protection, harmony and peace. Today’s India, religion
has no role and politicians should stay away from disrupting communal harmony.
The problem with BJP is that their entire political strategy is
mostly concentrated in bashing the Congress party and minorities of this great
country. BJP party is of the belief that they are the only sole legitimate
owners of India and that their ideology is best suited to rule India in this
21st century. People of India want peace and harmony. People of India are tired
of slogans and false promises. We need action orientated government which
believes, practices and delivers promises on time.
People of India are very wise and vote intelligently. Money
power and bullying will not win election for any politicians and political
party in India. People now are enlightened and can see for themselves the
difference. Great oratory skills are just an entertainment and real
politics is in the delivery of promises.
BJP will have to lower their inflated ego and work together with
the opposition in and outside the parliament for progress of the country. BJP
should stop blaming the present problems of the country on past governments and
parties. BJP was elected to be a party of change and bring credible reforms
which are beneficial to the country and the countrymen.
BJP party and some of their hotheads should stop hate mongering
and polarization politics. Stop fooling the people of India and start
delivering. Don’t use communal card to hide your incompetence.
Paul Pereira, Utorda
Bihar jolt for BJP
A strong jolt to BJP in Bihar election results is good for it. Mr.
Modi was over confident of winning too. A strong opposition is also a must in a
democratic set up BJP lost Bihar mandate because of caste factor and also
recent controversies which BJP failed to control and gave satisfactorily
reasons for it; and in spite of high promises completely failed to solve
problems of common men. Instead of launching many new schemes for welfare
of public it is better to concentrate on implementation of few schemes – that
will show results of schemes launched –delivery of promises made too.
It is unfortunate for the country that some of the Daagi
netas have won in Bihar elections; as people have voted on caste / regional
basis which is not good for the country as a whole. The politicians must rise
above vote bank politics and think of the nation, not caste or the region.
Regionalism hinders the economic growth of India. Local Politicians must give
priority to State but not at the cost of the nation. They must not indulge in
cheap gimmicks for votes.
