self centred politicians

My site is worth $1335.9.
How much is yours worth?

The run up to the lok sabha elections have always been fought on issues at the centre but this election saw a different turn on events where in the people who were jubilant of their victory following the church  circular in 2012 were all out in condemning a similar circular of the church in 2014. The baits were thrown at the power hungry and self centered politicians from salcette to compete against each other in pleasing the big boss. Who in turn will bestow upon them the plum posts and take back their court cases. Catholic MLA s were pushed in the front line and asked to shrew as much of venom as possible to show the church down. It seems that a flamboyant  MLA even stoop to such a low that after opposing the church went a step forward to undervalue his  constituents to  as low as Rs 300/- to attend a meeting and 500/- to vote in favor of  the ruling party. All these MLAs were fighting a battle amongst themselves to show their solidarity to the Boss who will distribute the crumbs after the election results. Hope these fellas never get what they have desired for themselves Let the power of the 27% Catholics teach them the correct lesson if not in this election then 2017 is not far away.

In Bardez it was a different kind of technique used to bring out the voters. First the scare that attendance will be taken at the venue of Modi’s  rally that made the women benefactors of different schemes turn out in large numbers and then at the elections the scare of cancellation of names who do not vote in favour of the ruling dispersion was put out in the public using the oldest word to mouth communicators. Then not to forget the last minute utterance by the head of the state to regularize the illegal houses built by non Goans on communidade land reserved for Sons of the soil. It is a plight that politicians are degrading the power of the genuine voters and at encouraging all types of illegalities just to gain control in the state policy making.  They are not bothered to see the mess they are creating for our future children who will inherited Goa infested by slums created by these self centered politicians.

Mr Mahesh Murthy on Modi

My site is worth $1335.9.
How much is yours worth?
So why do so many of us really love Narendra Modi?
I've been thinking about this as I've been posting my thoughts here and seeing responses not just from fake BJP accounts (you can easily make them out, they're young, male profiles, using someone else's picture and their accounts have been created in the last few months) - but also from people I know and respect.
0. But before I start, some hygiene issues: First of all, I'm not getting paid to do this. One of my companies - and I have over 40 investees, by the way - has done work for BJP and AAP, and of course, the BJP spam accounts will shout that I'm being paid to do this. The truth is this, I'd love to be paid to do this. Except the darn Aam Aadmi Party folks have no money for me. @Arvind Kejriwal, if you're reading this, dude, paisa hai to bhej de yaar. Public demand hai.
Good. Now to why some people think Modi is the great white (or wheatish) hope for the country.
1. First, we're all pissed off at the Congress. Anything, we think, is better than that bunch of thieves and dynastic robbers. So we're all looking for a saviour. So much that we don't even talk about the Congress in this election - we've already written them off completely.
2. The thing is, we don't see deeper that the hidden figure behind the Congress' corruption - Mukesbhai - is the same guy who has since decided to support and bring in a BJP government, one that will again jump to its whims and fancies, till you get tired of it too, 5 or 10 years from now.
And Ambani has done it indirectly, through the media he owns: First Post, First Biz, CNBC, Lokmat, Awaaz, CNN IBN, NDTV, ETV, 9x and more.
And directly too, via his cousin-in-law, if there be such a term - Saurabh Patel - running the Petrol, Energy, Mines and Tourism industries in Gujarat - all of the more corrupt ones. The Mining Scam in Gujarat is a Rs. 2,000 crore loss to the state government, and the gas price scam is Rs. 25,000 undeserved crores every year in Mukesbhai's pocket.
3. So if you're seeing those childish orange ads on TV saying BJP is against corruption, you should laugh. They're not just terrible ads, they're also terrible lies.
The BJP is as much a front for Reliance and other large chor businesses as the Congress is. And it's just as corrupt. As some of the factoids say - 37% of BJP's candidates - the most of any party - have a criminal record. It beats even the Congress in this norm.
4. The next big reason for Modi love is, many of us think, wow, "Development" and "progress". "Modi really developed Gujarat - I want India developed". Again, the truth, as everybody has pointed out - is that nothing spectacular has happened in Gujarat in all these years of Modi rule.
Sure, Gujarat has done one or two things well, it is average or below average on loads of other things, and it is terrible on one or two things. You could perhaps grade the state government as a "C" on its report card. Average to below-average.
Many states, Bihar included, did far better. What you're seeing is a PR campaign, well-funded, and with a lot of print and TV fluffing it up. Oh, by the way, the HT owner - a Congress MP - has his child married into the Ambani family too, if you're looking for even more conspiracy fodder here
5. Then it comes to leadership. "Man, what a commanding presence this guy is, what a leader." Well, Modi certainly seems to have turned India into a Presidential form of government, with every message - including "Ab ki baari" being about him and not the party or its principles or its candidates. While I don't have an issue with egoism itself - I personally dislike egoistic folks, but others seem to like such people - perhaps one should ask, who is leading him from behind, and where is this gent going to lead us to?
Is this leading to more money for Reliance? More freebies for Adani? The manifesto just came out today and it seems to be saying "We'll do quite a bit of what the Aam Aadmi Party says, plus in addition we're going to screw the Muslims".
6. Which probably brings me to the point that few seem to talk about. "Modi showed the damn Muslims." Many of my Hindu friends say it after a drink or two. It's some matter of pride, perhaps. Maybe Modi-love is really about Hindus taking revenge centuries after the Mughals screwed us over.
Which is also the perhaps the reason why the rabid RSS and even more rabid VHP have pushed Modi down the throats of the once-apparently-secular BJP. (Yes, yes, some fake account will come by and say "sickular" as though being secular is sick. Dude, it's in our constitution. You've heard of that thing, right?")
Modi is a RSS man, and will support every RSS belief. Being gay is a crime. So forget about Section 377 being repealed in the BJP tenure. Women being equal to men cannot be tolerated, because that idiot Manu said so in his Smriti. The country can't eat beef, because of some silly chant like "gaai hamaari maata hai", even though were were traditionally a beef-eating country.
All of this is just a Hindu version of religious fundamentalism in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia. And it's just as nauseating. This is Hindu Sharia - rule by the demented old farts in khakhi chaddis, and nothing else.
And remember, Modi's rise started only after the direct support, shielding and protection of the Hindus who killed over a 1,000 innocent Muslims in Gujarat. That wasn't a Hindu movement - it was a goonda movement in the name of Hinduism. That let him take the "Hindu Hriday Samrat" crown away from the equally racist Bal Thackeray. That made him the RSS's new point man for the Hindufication of India.
When it comes to that, I really have only one defence or alternative to suggest. If you're a rabid Hindu who believes India should be Hindu and the rest of Indians - Muslims, Christians, or even Atheists and Agnostics like me should not be tolerated, then say so openly. Carve out a different country for yourself, man - and go there.
India's constitution doesn't support you and your beliefs.
And don't tell me you're a patriot. You're not. You're a Hindu zealot.
Sure, you can love Modi. You can even make him one of the darn Shankaracharyas if you like. But you can't vote for him or the party he represents.
If you want to be Indian, then shed the religious slant when it comes to public life, private life and government.
And shed it when it comes to voting for who will lead us. Religion has no place in politics.
Cheers

ELECTIONS 2014

The 2014 Lok Sabha Election

In these elections, some political parties are seeking your support with the promise that they will eliminate corruption. It's your right as well as your duty to know the truth about corruption. We urge you to take a decision only after thoroughly examining the claims being made by these parties. Please have a look at these points before casting your vote.

• While the Congress brought the RTI Act in 2005, RTI activists like Amit Jetwa were killed in Gujarat. The names of  many BJP leaders came up  in connection with his murder. His only fault: asking questions of the government. (Source: http://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/newdelhi/bjp-mp-behind-murder-rti-activists-family/article1-575531.aspx)
• The Lokpal was brought in by the Congress but in Gujarat, the government did not appoint a Lokayukta for 10 years. When the Governor did appoint a Lokayukta, what did the state government do? It spent Rs 45 crore through an NGO to initiate legal proceedings against the appointment.  http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Narendra-Modi-government-funded-NGOs-proxy-war-against-Lokayukta/articleshow/21737944.cms

• The Supreme  Court found Gujarat Minister Smt Anandiben Patel guilty in a land distribution case. But the government took no action against her and she still continues as a Cabinet Minister.http://news.oneindia.in/india/sc-pulls-up-gujarat-minister-anandiben-patel-arrogance-power-1382185.html
• The main accused in Rs 400 crore Fisheries Scam Shri Purshottam Solanki still continues to grace the Gujarat Cabinet with his presence. http://zeenews.india.com/news/gujarat/guj-hc-upholds-guv-order-to-prosecute-bjp-minister-solanki_800761.html

• While Congress took action against those found guilty of corruption, Shri Yeddyurappa smoothly found his way back to the party after his stint in prison. http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/yeddyurappa-gets-bail-will-leave-jail-soon-147825

• To usher in greater transparency, the UPA decided to go for the auctioning of coal blocks. The CAG said that private parties made profits to the tune of Rs 1.86 crore because of the a delay in implementing the auction policy. The reason for the delay was the pressure that was being exerted by state governments. It is for this reason that the government was forced to continue with the 1993 policy. Please note that the NDA made no change in the 1993 policy during their 6 and a half year tenure.
·        If the policy was an old one and mining didn't start even in a single mine, where does the question of loss arise?http://pmindia.gov.in/pmsinparliament.php?nodeid=62

·         The CBI is inquiring into the cases in which officials did not follow the required procedures. The guilty will be brought to book.

·         The story of the 2-G allocations is also similar. There are two aspects to this issue. First, government policy and second, the manner in which it was implemented by A Raja.

·         The case against Raja is pending before the court. If he is found guilty, he will be punished.
·         As far as the policy is concerned, we adopted the same policy that was followed by the NDA. The objective of this policy is providing mobile connectivity to the people at affordable rates.

·         The CAG has alleged that not going for an auction has caused losses to the exchequer. But the government's aim was to provide affordable mobile rates to the people and not maximising revenue. The UPA used the auction of 3-G spectrum to increase the country's revenue and allocated 2-G spectrum to provide mobile connectivity to the poor. As far as the policy is concerned, it enabled crores of Indians to move forward. (http://articles.economictimes.indiatimes.com/2012-11-29/news/35432953_1_cag-s-2g-uas-licences-mhz)

·          Commonwealth Games Scam accused Suresh Kalmadi was removed as chairman Indian Olympic Committee by our government,. His case is being tried by the courts. The Congress has denied him a ticket in the Lok Sabha elections. But the  BJP welcomed Shri B.S. Yeddyurappa with open arms after his return from jail.
The truth often gets drowned in the din of elections. This is especially so when the masters of lies and false propaganda have the highest decibels. We are putting the truth in front of you. However, it is your duty to examine the facts yourself and make an informed choice.

If you agree with these facts,  please share them with your friends.

Herald letter to the editor

My site is worth $1335.9.
How much is yours worth?

The outburst against Fr. Prakash and the church authority in one of the letter to the editor is so uncalled for. It is this kind of ignorance about the facts surrounding us has made people like the writer just go and vote and not be bothered about to know who they are voting for, we are not bothered to foresee what may come to the minority community if the power is in the hands of the people who were instrumental in 2002 atrocities of the worse nature, were hundreds of people were eliminated not sparing women and children. People who are ignorant of these facts should at least try and get information before attacking the clergy who has been working tirelessly for the upliftment of these very orphan children and adults who were victims of the Gujrat riots. He has been travelling to the other states too .He was in Goa not for any personal gain but to put in some sense into people like us, who might be spending more sleepless nights in the near future not because we have to toil ourselves as usual but for the safety of our own children whom we care and see as the future citizens of this Country. It is always better to get more information about the person you want to see at the helm of affairs, if not for ourselves but for the future of our children.

Churchil' Revolt

My site is worth $1335.9.
How much is yours worth?

Mr Churchill is  considered to be the most loyal foot soldier of Goa when it comes to issues facing    the Goans populace. He is known for his kindness and simplicity. Goans have always seen him as the man of the masses. It’s the evolution and the devolution of power that makes any leader great.. He may be down but not out . I as a true admirer would appeal him to save the aggression against Mr Lorenco  for a future date. Support a ferllow Goan who is also concern about the same issues faced by the xasticars be it the airport, securing tthe secular fabric of the state,, MOI ,Mining ,  special status  or the Portugese Passport issue. It is a well know fact that these issues can only be dealt  by either you or Mr Lorenco  and not by the others in the fray who are just there to split the votes and give advantage to the BJP candidate who is in favour of Mopa, whose allies have already given statements saying the PP holders has to be send to Portugal. Whose party ideology supports Akhaand Bharat concept and not special status  in terms of land use  they are in for regularizing all the  illegal houses  by outsiders on goan land  Mining too will be given to the big corporate . I only wish Mr Churchill supports Lorencos Candidature and stands tall in the hearts of every  peace loving  Goans  . My appeal goes to the other xasticar stalwarts like Mr  Avernat Furtado, Mr. Mickey, Mr Caitu.  and  Mr Bengamine. You may be over burdened with the fovours done to your constituency by the govt and you will get to return the favour at a later stage but as of now the people of Goa are looking at your precious moves and expect a lot from you for the sake of Goa’s  bright future

TWELVE YEARS NOW THE WAIT FOR TRUTH AND JUSTICE! by Fr. Cedric Prakash

Reading Fr. Cedric Prakash's article makes one wonder what is in store to the minority population of this country ones the hardliner Hindu Leader takes on the reins of this multi linguistic, multi cultural and most important multi religious country of us. The Gujrat riots cannot be forgotten by the people who have suffered and lost their children and families , women raped and killed by the so called majority cadre. It is a pity that someone who was instrumental in letting loose these wolfs on the innocent people has no ramose for his actions following the Godra incident where as the head of the state he did not  try to curtail the situation. Such a horrific thing can be done only when you are 100 % follower of a religious order where your religion is supreme. We find a lot of support for the Prime ministerial candidate , it is again those fanatic people who are supporting him who look at him as their only protector of their religion and has faith in him to supress the other religion in this country. The rich business man will support him for their own benefit ,they have not suffered in the riot or are sure that they will not be subject to any thing of that sort in the future . It is the poor minority that suffer when such riots takes place. Development only cannot be the plank to choose a countries leader communal harmony should be the desire and assurance committed to the minority of this country.

TWELVE YEARS NOW: THE WAIT FOR TRUTH AND JUSTICE!
-Fr. Cedric Prakash sj*

It is Sunday, 23rd February 2014:  the UN Special Rapporteur of Freedom of Religion or Belief Prof. Dr. Heiner Bielefeldt was visiting Ahmedabad listening to eye witness accounts from the victim-survivors and others on the reality of Gujarat.

Ms. Rupa Mody came up to the podium. She began in her usual calm, composed manner. She would have perhaps narrated the heart-rending story of her great personal tragedy a million times over. In a matter of minutes, however, she could hardly continue. She broke down and sobbed inconsolably asking this one question: “will my Azhu ever come back?”   Rupa, we all know is a Parsi and on that fateful day of February 28th 2002, when all hell broke loose, she was there in Gulberg Society with her two little children – Azhar and Binaifer.

She shared with the Rapporteur how several persons in authority were contacted by Mr. Ehsan Jafri (a former Member of Parliament), seeking security for the members of the housing society where they lived when the mobs had gathered outside to attack them. But no help came.  The mobs broke in and ruthlessly attacked the people, raped the women and burnt them, leaving 69 dead in one of the most horrific attacks during the Gujarat Carnage of 2002.

What happened the previous day, February 27th 2002, when 58 passengers traveling by the S-6 coach in the Sabarmati Express lost their lives (near Godhra) was a tragedy beyond comprehension! For next 24 hours, nothing happened anywhere! But early noon, on February 28th, after Maha-aartis in several parts of Ahmedabad city and other parts of Gujarat, all hell broke loose!

Mobs belonging to the Sangh Parivar, with complete connivance of the Gujarat Government, raped and brutalized, plundered and pillaged, burnt and killed at will! Even as she breaks down, Rupa asked this one question: “what did I do to deserve this?” Apart from being attacked herself, till today, she does not know what has happened to her only son: Azhar. Rupa’s traumatic story of a mother longing for her son to return is just one story of hundreds of victim-survivors of the Gujarat Carnage, who still relentlessly struggle for truth and for justice.

It is true that there have been some convictions – some powerful people like Maya Kodnani and Babu Bajrangi have been found guilty and have been given some exemplary punishment.  But, everybody knows that these convictions are just the tip of the iceberg and quite often the small fry are sacrificed to save the big fish.

Top of the list is Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister of Gujarat who presided over the carnage and who has not shown the slightest bit of remorse or taken responsibility of what took place.   There is an overdrive by his PR machinery to show that he has got a “clean chit” from the courts. It is extremely strange that a report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by R.K. Raghavan is regarded as the ‘final’ say whereas another report by Raju Ramachandran, the amicus curiae suggesting several lapses and loopholes in the SIT report is ignored by many.

An important new book by Manoj Mitta entitled ‘The Fiction of Fact-Finding: Modi & Godhra’ clearly lays bare the many contradictions in the SIT report and forcefully argues that “crucial evidence has fallen through the cracks”. In his interview to the Outlook magazine (17th February, 2014), the introduction states, “Indeed as he (Mitta) forcefully argues, the anomalies of the SIT’s closure report point to far more than the relativism of the truth; they mock India’s commitment to its national motto: Satyameva Jayate (truth alone triumphs)”.

Yes, today marks twelve years since that terrible tragedy unfolded in Gujarat on a hapless minority community. Some would like the victim-survivors to forget things; to bring to closure that terrible chapter; some even think of making the man who presided over this violence the next Prime Minister of the country! But for a person like Rupa, whose tragedy has been immortalized in the filmParzania, there will never be any closure. She waits…. she waits….. she waits…. for her Azhu to return home.

Will Rupa experience the triumph of truth and justice?

What if Modi becomes Indian premier?

Four myths about India's leading prime ministerial candidate
alt
As a Christian and particularly a Jesuit priest, I take stands and believe that while being open to dialogue and reason, one has to be unequivocal about what one stands for.  So, I take a stand against politicians or political parties that are sectarian, corrupt, casteist and above all those who indulge in the criminalization of society.
I do not espouse any political party. All have their own drawbacks. A reality check would show that each one has failed the people of India in some way or another, especially the poor and the marginalized, either because of their particular ideology or because they have catered to a particular class or caste.
All this brings to mind the powerful words of Pope Francis in his Apostolic Exhortation, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel) in which he condemns “the economy of exclusion and inequality anda financial system which rules rather than serves”.
We have to accept that genuine fears and anxieties exist about Narrndra Modi, the pro-Hindu Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate and three-time chief minister of Gujarat becoming prime minister, after the general election due in May.
However let me clarify some matters about Modi and his rule in Gujarat.
Myth 1: Modi is a development man
This cannot be further from the truth. Gujarat has always been a developed state from the time it was carved out of Bombay state in 1960. Economic indicators clearly show that Gujarat under Modi has been ‘worse off’ than under previous governments (even the BJP one before him).
The fact is that foreign direct investment in Gujarat has taken a severe beating in the last few years and even local investment is far below what is being flaunted. Regarding social indicators, Gujarat fares poorly.
A UNICEF report published in 2013 says social development in the state has not kept pace with economic development; almost every second child in Gujarat under five years old is undernourished, while three quarters are anemic.
Myth 2: The Gujarat carnage is a thing of the past and Modi has been given a “clean chit”
Many believe the courts exonerated Modi of involvement in the Gujarat anti-Muslim riots in 2002. The hard facts are, however, very different. First of all, no court has given Modi a clean chit.
True, there is a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report that says there is not enough evidence against Modi.
But this has been challenged, with the petitioner Zakhia Jafri being given leave by Ahmadabad magistrates to question  the merits of the SIT report in a higher court.
Raju Ramchandran, appointed by the Supreme Court as amicus curiae for many of the Gujarat riot cases, asserts that there is enough evidence to prosecute Modi on several counts with regard to the violence in 2002, in which more than 1,000 people died.
Modi has neither shown any remorse nor taken responsibility for the killing of innocent people under his watch. The least a chief minister could have been expected to do was to enforce law and order and protect the life and property of every citizen in his state. That he ignored this responsibility, there is no doubt among many. That he has denigrated minorities has been documented by the print and the electronic media.
Myth 3: Modi has “made up” with the minorities
There are some claiming to be representatives of minority Christian and Muslim communities who sing Modi’s praises.
A careful analysis indicates these people have vested interests, especially in business, and are not really interested in their community or what is happening to minorities in the country.
In 2003 Modi introduced an anti-conversion law and established rules to govern the implementation of this law in 2008.
It is perhaps one of the most draconian laws in the history of democratic India. It forbids a citizen from converting to another faith unless she/he has permission from civil authorities.
Even now, police and intelligence officers constantly visit Christian institutions and Christians in general, making all kinds of inquiries and demanding to check baptism registers and other records.
Myth 4: Modi is not corrupt
In May 2012, anti-corruption campaigners Anna Hazare and Arvind Kejriwal visited Gujarat. They came away declaring it the most corrupt state in the country. Why they have not continued to highlight corruption in Gujarat is anyone’s guess.
Several years ago, the Tata Motor Company was allowed to establish a plant to build the “world's cheapest car” in Gujarat with surprising ease, flouting every rule in the book and even the state's industrial policy.
It is alleged that the Adani Company controls the price of compressed natural gas, amassing huge profits. In addition, the role of the Ambanis in mega projects in Gujarat is being questioned. The way environmental laws are flouted and the terrible ecological degradation that is taking place all over the state, all point to the fact that corruption is alive and kicking in Gujarat.
Another indicator is the way land has been handed to big corporations, displacing thousands of small farmers across the state. There have been huge protest rallies, but they were not covered by a media, which by and large seems to have been muzzled in Gujarat.
These four myths provide an insight into the grim reality in Gujarat under the leadership of Modi. No one really knows if he will become prime minister.  But India deserves better leaders. Indian politics revolves around regional parties. As of now, the BJP has practically no allies from several states. Most regional parties are obviously waiting to see which party will emerge as the single largest party in the 2014 elections.

The welcomed annoucement by the CM that the citizenship issue will be solved once BJP's priministerial candidate gets in the PM's seat is another carrot daggling in front of the xasticar voters who are most effected by the portugese nationility row. When his own party collegues and his partners in the cabinet are all out to put the PP holders out of goa/India this is another trick to bully the already neive people of xaxtti. With the NRI commissioner himself so vocal on TV against all the PP holders in Goa and the ideology of akhand bharat practiced by the BJP it is a known fact that the plight of these people and their families will worsen once BJP man is on the seat.
